Raymore (continued)We were headed back to Mississippi and were in the middle of Illinois when my phone rang. It was Nancy’s mother and she told me and I quote, “I want you to buy my home. You and I will work out a price and the siblings will just have to learn to live with it.” We were approaching Interstate 70, which passes through the middle of Illinois and runs almost due west to Kansas City just north of Raymore. Nancy and I made a quick decision and made a right turn and headed west. Raymore was going to be our new home. |

A little side note, it was July and beastly hot, 100 plus degrees. Once past St. Louis in Missouri, we encountered a strong head wind and along with the hills, the motorhome engine stated to heat up such that we could not continue to maintain normal highway speed without overheating. When we finally pulled up in front of the house, the motorhome’s outside thermometer registered 107 degrees, a record temperature for that day. We knew from experience there was no way the motorhome’s air conditioning could cool our bedroom. Fortunately, the A/C in the house was still working and the house was empty. We slept in Nancy’s parent’s bed that night. |
